About the Gallery

A Letter to My Body is the second part of a Monsoon project that was launched about two years ago, and this time around, the personal accounts come from college students. Participants share deeply moving stories of body insecurities, trauma and growing pains, both poignant and funny, as they continue to hunker down in their personal spaces during the COVID-19 pandemic. This website was created to provide accessibility to visitors and to inspire more submissions, with bylines or anonymously.

The first project, conceived by Leah Soweid, a former Monsoon advocate, was displayed across Iowa as a travelling exhibit during Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Aril 2019. Monsoon aims to continue this engagement with community members as a goal of raising awareness of sexual violence and seeking collective ways to address it.

This project was supported by grant No. 2019-KS-AX-0003. Awarded by the Office On Violence Against Women,U.S. Department of Justice. The opinions, findings, conclusions, and recommendations expressed in this publication/program/exhibition are those of the authors(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. Department of Justice.
